A steel wire rope is an assortment of wires helically spun to form a rope that must be able to withstand tensile and bending stress. Its basic components are WIRES and a CORE. This is used to build more complex structures, called strands, which are then drawn around another CORE to create the steel wire rope (end product). The diameter and layout of the wires in the strand, as well as the type of CORE (steel or fiber), determine the quality of the steel wire rope: tensile strength, flexibility, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, etc.
