Dee shackles are typically used for one-leg slings, while multi-leg slings are usually fitted with bow shackles. Safety shackles (with bolts and split cotter pins) are recommended for permanent or long-term applications in which the load could slide onto the shackle’s pin, causing it to rotate. Van Beest has developed special shackles, as is the case of the Green Pin Polar model, to be used under extreme weather conditions (-40 °C to +200 °C; -40 °F to +392 °F).
